Nominations Open for this year's SONI Community Champions Awards
The dedication of over 100 rugby volunteers from across Ulster was recognised on Thursday night at a prestigious event held at Kingspan Stadium attended by Ulster Rugby players, officials and staff.
Ulster Rugby paid tribute to the vital work of volunteers by holding an evening of celebration in recognition of the huge contribution they make to the grassroots game. The event was held in conjunction with System Operator for Northern Ireland (SONI), who recently launched the 2017/18 Community Champions Awards through which volunteers can win bursaries of up to £1,000 for their clubs.
Welcoming the volunteers to the celebration event, Graffin Parke, President, IRFU Ulster Branch said: “We are delighted to host this event in recognition of all our volunteers who make such a huge contribution to rugby throughout the Province. From mini rugby on a Saturday morning to the bright lights of Kingspan Stadium on a Friday night, none of it would be possible without the invaluable effort of volunteers.”
Nick Fullerton, Director SONI, said: "SONI has enjoyed a positive relationship with Ulster Rugby for many years and the SONI Community Champions Awards have been a key part of the relationship. Recently we launched the awards scheme for the third year running. There are two categories – mini and youth rugby, and adult rugby – with each winning volunteer receiving £1,000 for their club and the two other finalists receiving £500 each. I would encourage everyone to nominate someone deserving in their club.”
The deadline for entries for Communities Champions is Monday 5th February 2018 and anyone can nominate by filling out the online application form at www.ulsterrugby.com/communitychampions.
