As part of Ulster Rugby's Health and Wellbeing Strategy, Action Mental Health have been invited to partner this important initiative and deliver FREE mental health awareness sessions called MINDSET (funded by the Public Health Agency).
MINDSET is an interactive workshop designed to empower, educate and support people in the area of mental and emotional wellbeing through a range of activities including group work and discussion.
Randalstown RFC was the first club to avail of these sessions with workshops involving coaches, parents and the youth players.
Commenting on the initiative, one Randalstown RFC player said: "The workshop was really useful as it taught us lots of different ways to deal with the stresses we face both on and off the pitch. It also reminded us that there's always someone we can talk to with any issues we have."
Fiona Teague, Health Improvement Manager with the PHA said:
"The Public Health Agency recognises that sporting bodies play an important role in the health and wellbeing of our communities. We are delighted to be working in partnership with Ulster Rugby and congratulate them on their innovative approaches to communicate key health messages to the public."
Ulster Rugby, in conjunction with Action Mental Health, is currently rolling out a number of additional regional mental health pilots with the aim of expanding this province-wide.
Any clubs wishing to express an interest to become involved in this initiative should email (Ulster Rugby Projects Manager) on Chris.Shields@ulsterrugby.com
Ulster Rugby gratefully acknowledges the funding and continued support of the Public Health Agency.
