The Ulster Women's team, sponsored by the Errigle Inn, produced a much improved performance in their second inter-pro, despite suffering a 15-7 defeat at the hands of Munster at Clonmel RFC.

Having lost their opening game 7-41 to Leinster at Ravenhill, Ulster were determined to give a better account of themselves. The opening periods of the game were frantic and Munster's centre Ger Rea kicked the first points after 15 minutes.

Much of the next quarter of the game was spent in a tight battle with both sides probing each other's defence but without breakthrough.

That was until Ulster captain Stacey-Lea Kennedy made a great break and ran in under the posts for a converted try to give the visitors a 3-7 lead.

But Munster began to apply pressure and back row Laura Guest took a quick tap penalty, from which she touched down for a fine individual score.

Playing with the wind in the second half, Munster had the advantage and used it to pin Ulster back who, to their credit, stood strong and repelled the Munster attack.

Mid-way through the second half Rea split the Ulster defence with a move from a scrum to the left and got over the line. She added a conversion to leave the score 15-7 in Munster's favour.

Ulster return to Belfast on Sunday when they will host Connacht at Queen's Arena, Malone Road (kick off 1.00pm).
