University of Ulster Sports Union launch INSPIRE Programme

The University of Ulster Sports Union has launched the INSPIRE (International Sports Interns Raising Expectations) Programme for 2013-14, to engage international postgraduate students in the development and delivery of widening access focused activities.

As high level rugby players the Interns will also engage in sport specific outreach work and represent the University of Ulster Coleraine Rugby Club.

During their time studying at Ulster on a one year postgraduate course of their choice, successful applicants to the INSPIRE Programme will commit to delivering elements of the Ulster Sports Outreach, SHINE@ULSTER programme for 8-10 hours per week during term time.

The SHINE@ULSTER programme provides a wide range of physical activity, sport and health initiatives designed to raise the aspirations of young people at disadvantage e.g. Team Building, Sport for LIFE, Sporting Values etc.

The programmes are delivered in partnership with external governing bodies, schools and community groups and involve the deployment of well-trained scholar athletes as highly enthusiastic and committed role models. Training is provided on all programmes and quality assurance checks are carried out on all scholar athletes prior to deployment.

As high level sports participants the Interns will also be expected to engage in sport specific outreach work and represent the University in their chosen sport.
