The Ulster Society of Rugby Football Referees (USRFR) will be holding a new referee course on Saturday 20th August at Newforge Sports Complex in Belfast.

Do you have what it takes? Do you want to give something back to the game?

Refereeing provides one of the best seats in the house, and many of our current referees only wish that they had started sooner.

Do you think you could be the next Chris Busby? He's a High Performance referee with IRFU and a member of USRFR who has been in Japan and Georgia in recent weeks, and is off to Argentina next week.

Would you like to challenge yourself to be able to progress to touch judging in the All Ireland League?

Or would you be happy refereeing in the Regional League?

If so, then don’t wait and simply give it a go!

There are two pathways into refereeing:

Richard Kerr, Referee Development Manager, said: “Quite simply, we need more referees to facilitate games of rugby in Ulster.

"I would encourage anyone, especially players who have come to the end of their playing career or who have unfortunately got injured, to give it a go.

"Yes, we do expect a significant amount of commitment for those wishing to referee for the USRFR, but the benefits are huge. I have been a member of this wonderful Society for 22 years and have enjoyed every minute."

If you do not wish to commit to joining the USRFR at this stage, please do consider becoming an affiliate referee. You may realise that you enjoy refereeing and progress to membership of the USRFR in due course.

The next new referee course will take place on Saturday 20th August at Newforge Sports Complex in Belfast.
