Both the Virginia U18 and U15 girls were crowned Ulster Cup Winners following their victories over Monaghan and Enniskillen respectively in the finals held at Mid-Ulster Sports Arena in Cookstown in April. It was a beautiful day with brilliant sunshine for the duration of the matches, and conditions were perfect for both players and the many spectators who travelled to support the girls.
Virginia U15 Girls were first to kick off against Enniskillen. Although Enniskillen were the League champions, both teams had a point to prove having played each other twice in the League previously with Enniskillen winning 24-7 on their home soil, and Virginia emerging the victors in their home fixture 37-5.
Spectators were treated to a very exciting match with the lead changing several times. However on this occasion Virginia were victorious claiming the Ulster Cup with a final score of 22-17.
Virginia U18 girls’ match against their near neighbours Monaghan followed immediately afterwards, but unfortunately Monaghan had to start with fourteen players due to injury.
From the outset the Virginia girls stamped their authority on the game, but to their credit the Monaghan girls never gave up.
The final whistle seen the Virginia girls claim their second victory of the season, having already been crowned Ulster league champions the previous month. Well done girls on the double.
