As part of Ulster Rugby's Volunteers' Week (01-12 June 2016) celebrations we will be showcasing some of our outstanding rugby volunteers and highlighting the great work that is carried out by rugby volunteers across Ulster.
One of these such individuals is Director of Rugby at Ards RFC, Stephen Nutt.
As Director of Rugby, Stephen oversees three mens adult teams, one ladies team, two youth teams and a full mini section, ensuring that each has adequate and qualified coaches, a manager, kit, medical supplies and training equipment.
In addition to his role as Director of Rugby, Stephen is also the 1st XV Manager, the Chair of Selectors and the club PRO. As 1st XV Manager, Stephen arranges all match logistics, transport, kit, referee liaison, medical provision and player welfare. As Chairman of Selectors, Stephen ensures that all teams fulfil their fixtures while also leading a selection committee to ensure all selection is well organised and based on merit. As club PRO Stephen collates all team match reports and promotes via local media, on the club website and social media channels.
As if all this wasn’t enough, Stephen is also an active club fundraiser, he supplies pots of soup for players after training and paints the club changing rooms every off-season. A former club captain, when he finds a free Saturday, Stephen can still be found playing for the club 3rds team. There can be no doubt that Stephen is an ‘Ardsman’ through and through and an invaluable asset to the club.
In recognition for his services to volunteering, Stephen was selected as a finalist for the 2016 SONI Community Rugby Champions Award, bringing home a £500 bursary for his club.
