Volunteer Profile: Brian Haughian

Brian Haughian: Half Time Minis Volunteer Introduction Meet Brian, one of our fantastic match night volunteers. Brian has been an Ulster Rugby volunteer for the past 5 years. Volunteer Role Brian assists Ulster Rugby staff by setting up the pitch where visiting age grade teams get invited to play during the half time interval. He makes sure that the minis get on and off the pitch as quickly as possible at half time as not to hold up the match as some matched are televised and would incur fines for any delay to the schedule. He makes sure the teams are seated in the correct area so they can be collected before half time to make sure they are ready to play during the half time interval. Why do you volunteer? “I love the role and I have made some very good friends with other volunteers and staff at Ulster   Rugby.” “I love working with the disability rugby teams and I love volunteering at the Ulster Rugby annual family fun day and festivals as it is a great opportunity to get up close and chat to the players when they are relaxed and everyone is just out to have a great day out.” How did you get involved in volunteering for Ulster Rugby? “I was at an event in Portadown and got chatting to the Volunteer Development officer and I just decided I so sign up to volunteering there and then.” Do you have to have any rugby experience to volunteer? “Not at all I have never played rugby, I come from a GAA background but I just love sport in general and I wanted to get involved, the opportunity presented it’s self and I just jumped in.”
