I donate platelets every 4 weeks at the Blood Donors HQ at the City Hospital
What sort of volunteering are you involved in?
I’m a member of the Charity Action Team. This mainly involves helping out with the bucket collections on match nights. We get assigned to various points around the stadium and it is our role to make the supporters feel welcome, smile and thank them if they make a donation. When there is a theme to the evening, we can get dressed up and have a bit of fun. The last collection for Mencap had a Superhero theme so I dressed up as Superman.
What made you want to be a volunteer?
I saw an advert on Facebook and at that time Ulster Rugby were joining forces with Cancer Research. Because my mother and quite a few other friends had died of cancer I wanted to help raise much needed funds to help defeat cancer.
Have you had any particular highlights while volunteering?
My main highlight would be meeting Brian O’Driscoll while collecting one night and he took a selfie of us.
What do you enjoy about being a volunteer?
I enjoy meeting people, being part of the team and getting to watch the games!
