Women's Preview | Ulster Rugby v Connacht

Ulster will be aiming to end their season on a winning note when they travel to Dexcom stadium to face Connacht in Saturday’s Vodafone Women’s Interprovincial 3^rd/4th place play-off. (KO: 2pm)

It’s been a tough campaign for so far for the team, but the squad remain determined as ever to end the season on a positive note.

Clashes between the two provinces often prove to be keenly fought and close.

In round one of this year’s championship, Connacht edged a tense battle 10-15, with the winning score arriving in the final 10 minutes.

The sides also clashed at the same stage last year, when after another tight affair where Connacht won 12-7 in the regular season, the Westerners pipped Ulster in a classic.

With both sides throwing off the shackles, supporters were treated to a classic, but unfortunately for Ulster, Connacht came out victorious again winning 37-30.

The Opposition

Connacht have experienced a difficult few weeks since they left Affidea Stadium with a five-point win in round one.

Their stand-out performance in this year’s championship arrived in their first half against Leinster, but they faded in the second and Leinster went on to record a 36-21 victory before they fell 47-12 to Munster last Saturday.

Players to Watch

Méabh Deely

The experience and tactical knowhow of Méabh Deely is what separated the sides when the sides clashed at Affidea Stadium in early August.

The 14-times capped Irish international delivered a Player of the Match performance with her kicking game pivotal in steering Connacht to an opening day win.

Anna McGann

Méabh Deely may have directed the operations in Connacht’s recent win in Belfast, but it was winger McGann who provided the finishing touches out wide.

The Irish international winger showed her class and pace as she went over for two tries. McGann has also lined out at centre in this year’s championship.

The Athlone native is also a former Leinster hockey player.

Jemima Adams-Verling

Jemima Adams-Verling has been rewarded for her stand-out performances with an international call-up for this autumns WXV Global Series.

The lock forward has been consistent not only for Connacht, but also for the Clovers in the Celtic Challenge.

The Galwegians player has already tasted international experience playing for Ireland Under 20’s and will no doubt be itching to carry her excellent club form onto the international stage come November.
