Ballymoney Rugby Club Unveils New Changing Facilities

Ballymoney Rugby Club marked a significant milestone in it's development, with the official opening of its new changing facilities, supported by the Levelling Up Fund, the IRFU and Local Government.

The new facilities were hailed as a major boost for grassroots rugby in the region.

Ballymoney Club President, Des Nevin, welcomed everyone to the day’s events after which the official opening was performed by Paul Hart, President of Ulster Rugby, who formally unveiled the upgraded amenities in front of club members, local representatives, and supporters.

A Major Step Forward for the Club

The new facilities represent a substantial investment in the club’s future, providing modern, inclusive spaces designed to meet current rugby standards and support the continued growth of the game at all levels. Developments such as these have become increasingly important across Ulster, as clubs seek to accommodate rising participation, particularly in youth and women’s rugby.

At Ballymoney, the upgraded changing rooms are expected to enhance both player experience and the club’s ability to host fixtures and community events, ensuring it remains competitive and welcoming in an evolving sporting landscape.

Community Effort and Lasting Impact

The project at Ballymoney Rugby Club was made possible through the combined efforts of club members, volunteers, and supporters, whose commitment ensured its successful completion. Such initiatives often rely on extensive community backing, reflecting the strong local ties that underpin rugby clubs throughout Ulster.

The new facilities are expected to serve the club for years to come, supporting everything from mini rugby to senior competition, while also encouraging greater participation within the wider community.

Matthew Holmes, Ulster Rugby Funding Manager, commented:

"This project has been made possible through investment from the UK Government’s Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, alongside support from the IRFU, and it’s clear these upgrades were much needed, particularly in light of the club’s explosion in female membership in recent years.

"It has been a pleasure to work with and support the club throughout the delivery of this project, and we look forward to seeing their next capital scheme to develop additional pitches come to fruition over the coming months."

Looking Ahead

With the official opening complete, Ballymoney Rugby Club now turns its focus to the future, aiming to build on this investment by growing membership, developing talent, and strengthening it's role within the local sporting landscape.

The occasion not only celebrated a new chapter for the club but also reinforced the enduring importance of grassroots rugby as the foundation of the sport across the province.
