A round-up of the latest Danske Bank Schools’ rugby action, by Ulster Schools’ PRO Barney McGonigle:

Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup

On Thursday 16 October, one group stage game took place when Enniskillen Royal Grammar School hosted Foyle College in their Group D game.

Enniskillen Royal emerged from this game as 17-3 winners.

The Enniskillen R points came through tries from Ben Wallace, John Hinchcliffe and Adam Little, one of which was successfully converted by Sam Paton.

The Foyle College points came through a penalty from Niall Kelly early in the game.

On Saturday 18 October, the rest of the second series of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup Group Stage games took place.

In Group A, Bangor Grammar School played Belfast High School and recorded a 40-0 win against the very spirited Belfast High team.

Bangor Grammar’s points came through tries from Cal Banyard, with a hattrick, Bruce McClure, Paddy McClure and Luke McKenzie.

Ryan Gowdy added the extras to five of the Bangor tries.

Omagh Academy played Regent House School at the Campsie playing fields and won the game 24-14.

Isaac Crawford, Matthew Brady and Joshua Orr scored the Omagh tries to which Sam Harper added three successful conversion kicks as well as one penalty goal.

Tom Bell and Jack Heron each scored a try for the Regent House School team to which Tom added both conversions.

In Group B, Down High School played Cambridge House Grammar School and won the game 47-5.

Down High scored seven tries with Lewis Connolly touching down for two and Alex Watson, Freddie Harris, Joe Bailie, Matthew Horner and Monty Jackson touching down for one try apiece.

Josh McCaughey was successful with six of his conversion kicks.

Cambridge House contributed a lot to the game and got some reward for their hard work when Kyle Collier crashed over for an unconverted try.

Dromore High School played Rainey Endowed School in a game Rainey recorded a 35-0 victory.

Eli Orr, Lorcan McLarnon, Jude Cleary McPuffin and Matthew Chambers, with two, were the Rainey Endowed School try scorers.

Adrian Martin was successful with all five of his conversion kicks.

In Group C, Portadown College hosted Dalriada School and won the very closely contested game 31-28.

Portadown College’s points came through ties from Sammy Walsh, with two, Callum Doak, Charlie Rodgers and Thomas Hall.

Charlie was also successful with three of his conversion kicks.

Dalriada scored four tries through Noah McMullan, Matthew Nicholl, Archie Graham and Chris Finney.

Chris was also successful with all four of his conversion kicks.

Royal School Dungannon recorded a five-bonus point walkover against Bangor Academy.

In Group D, Friends’ School Lisburn entertained Coleraine Grammar School and came out on top with a hard earned 19-14 victory at the no side whistle.

Hero of the game for the Friends’ School Lisburn team was Scott Henderson whose power and pace caused major problems for the Coleraine defence.

Scott scored a hattrick of tries, two of which were converted by Ross Glover.

Coleraine Grammar team brought a lot to the game and, despite finding themselves 19-0 going into the final quarter of the game, they scored two late tries through Joel Milford and Lewis Marshall.

 Ben Todd was successful with both conversion kicks.

Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ U16 Plate

On Tuesday 14 October, in the last of the U16 Plate games, Limavady Grammar School played Belfast High School in a game Belfast High won 27-17.

1XV Friendlies

On Wednesday 15 October, Campbell College travelled to play Terenure College in Dublin in a game Terenure won 30-10.

Terenure College scored five tries with Geoff O’Sullivan running in for two and John Mooney, Rowan Balamash and Cathal Martin touching down for one try each.

Geoff O’Sullivan was successful with one conversion kick as well as one penalty.

Campbell College’s points came from a David Nelson try, which was converted by Jack Best, who was also successful with one penalty.

On Saturday 18 October, several 1XV friendly games took place.

Lurgan College played Antrim Grammar School in an exciting game that ended as a 15-15 draw with both teams scoring two tries, one conversion and one penalty.

The Lurgan tries came from Will Cunningham and Seth Martin to which Ben Maxwell added one conversion as well as one penalty.

The Antrim tries came from Jonah Woolley and Declan McDonnell to which Isaac Lynn added one conversion as well as one penalty.

Grosvenor Grammar School hosted Banbridge Academy in a game Banbridge team won 31-5.

The Grosvenor points came from an unconverted try scored by Sam Ferguson.

The Banbridge tries were scored by Ethan Houston, Alex Martin, Sam Leslie, Dawson Knox and Conor Comiskey.

Daniel Byrne added three successful conversion kicks.

Royal Belfast Academical Institution played Methodist College in a game RBAI won 34-24.

Sebastian Clarke, Dylan Gray, Reuben Gibson, with two, and Ross Dillon were the try scorers for the Royal Belfast Academical Institution team.

Charlie O’Connor added the extras to three of the tries as well as converting one penalty kick.

Methodist College scored three tries through Luca Vericat, Isaac Bell and Alex Turkington.

Louis Curran added three successful conversion kicks as well as one successful penalty goal.

Wallace High School hosted Sullivan Upper School in a game which saw Sullivan emerge as 5-0 winners.

Jacob McKeown scored the only points of the game when he touched down for the unconverted try for the Sullivan Upper School team.
