A round-up of the latest Danske Bank Schools’ rugby action, by Ulster Schools’ PRO Barney McGonigle:

Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup

In Group A, Ballyclare High School played Belfast High School and won 54-14.

Lewis Flynn, Jude Semple, Austin Adair, Zach Thompson, Paddy McCleary, Joshua Tweed, David Jenkins and Ryan Foods were the Ballyclare try scorers.

The remaining Ballyclare points came from the trusty boot of James Woodside.

Belfast High scored two tries through Ben Gardner and Evan Prior.

Ben added one successful conversion kick with Matthew McCabe adding a second.

Omagh Academy hosted Bangor Grammar School at the Campsie Playing Fields and won the game, 14-7.

Isaac Crawford and David Liggett scored the Omagh tries to which Sam Harper added two successful conversion kicks.

Jamie Flynn scored a try for Bangor Grammar with Ryan Gowdy adding the extras to the try.

In Group B, Cambridge House Grammar School played Dromore High School in a game Dromore High won 7-5.

The Cambridge House points came through an unconverted try from Tom Murphy.

The Dromore High points came through a try from Andrew Waugh which was converted by Alfie Clarke.

Limavady Grammar School played Rainey Endowed School in a game Rainey won, with almost the last play of the game, 20-17.

The Limavady Grammar points came through a try from Ewan Brennan and four successful penalty kicks from Alexander Howe.

Luke Caskey, Lorcan McLarnon and James Bell scored the Rainey tries.

Adrian Martin added one successful penalty kick as well as one successful conversion kick.

In Group C, Banbridge Academy played Bangor Academy and won the game, 40-0.

Dawson Knox, Charlie Geoghegan, Ethan Houston, Arturs Jonuss and Conor Patton were the Banbridge try scorers to which Max Ireland added five successful conversion kicks.

Portadown College hosted Royal School Dungannon in a game RS Dungannon won 16-14.

The Portadown points came through a penalty try, a try from Sam Bentley along with one successful conversion kick from Charlie Rodgers.

James Gibson scored all the RS Dungannon points with a try, conversion as well three successful penalty kicks.

In Group D, Foyle College played Friends’ School Lisburn in a game Foyle College won 24-14.

Cian O’Leary, with a hattrick, and George Rough scored the Foyle tries with Niall Kelly adding two successful conversion kicks.

Max Warwick and Scott Henderson scored the Friends’ tries with Ross Glover adding two successful conversion kicks.

The game involving Larne Grammar School and Coleraine Grammar School has had to have been rescheduled for Wednesday 3 December.

Ulster Age-Grade

On Monday 24 November, the Meadowbank Stadium in Magherafelt was the venue when Antrim Grammar School 1XV & 2XV provided the opposition for the Ulster Clubs’ U17s & U18s.

The Ulster U17 Clubs won their game against Antrim Grammar School 2XV by 45-5.

Oliver Skelly, Banbridge RFC and Josh Morrow, Finn Valley RFC, each scored two tries with Dawson Crawford, Strabane RFC, Tom Little, Civil Service RFC and Ruairi Mason, Bangor RFC, each touching down for one try.

Oliver Skelly capped a fine personal performance with five successful conversion kicks.

David McFarland touched down for an unconverted try for the very spirited Antrim Grammar.

Ulster U18 Clubs won their game against Antrim Grammar 1XV by 41-12.

Lorcan Mantell, Banbridge RFC, ran in for a hattrick of tries, Ayrton Pienaar, Virginia RFC, touched down for a brace, with Thomas McPhillips, Ballynahinch RFC, and JJ McVeigh, Academy RFC, scoring one try each for the Ulster U18 Clubs’ team.

Conor Frazer, Malone RFC, was successful with three of his conversion kicks.

Antrim Grammar, with Jonah Woolley to the fore, contributed a lot to the pace of the game.

Antrim Grammar got reward for their endeavours when Jake Quigley touched down for two tries, one of which was converted by Isaac Lynn.

Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield

On Tuesday afternoon, Strabane Academy played Limavady Grammar School in Round 2.

This game proved to be a very closely contested game, but Limavady Grammar won 15-10.

In the same competition, Wellington College made a welcome return, when they hosted Portadown College in their Round 2 game.

Portadown College won this high-scoring, fast paced encounter, 32-27.

Belfast High School played Antrim Grammar School in a game Antrim Grammar won 10-5.

On Saturday 29 November, Cambridge House Grammar School played Regent House School in a game Regent House won 17-6.

Dalriada School hosted Friends’ School Lisburn in a game Friends’ won 40-12.

Dromore High School played Grosvenor Grammar School in a game refereed by that most experienced of USRFR members, Mark Orr.

This very closely contested game ended with Dromore High recording a hard earned 7-5 victory.

Foyle College played Enniskillen Royal Grammar School in a game Enniskillen Royal won 14-0.

Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3XV Cup

On Tuesday 25 November, Ballyclare High School 3XV played Bangor Grammar School 3XV in the first round of the 3XV Cup.

Ballyclare High won this game, 56-15.

On Wednesday 26 November, two more 3XV Cup games took place when Banbridge Academy 3XV played Foyle College 3XV.

Following a high-scoring encounter, it was Foyle College that emerged as 45-33 winners.

RBAI 5XV played Omagh Academy 3XV in a game Omagh Academy 3XV won 24-7.

Another 3XV Cup game took place on Saturday 29 November. Down High School 3XV played Campbell College 4XV in a game Campbell College won 31-5.

1XV Friendlies

In the remaining 1XV games, Antrim Grammar School was scheduled to have played Lurgan College but the game has been rescheduled for 13 December.

Belfast Royal Academy played Regent House School in a game Regent House team won 31-21.

Blake McCloskey, Daniel Ogilby and Daniel Henderson scored the BRA tries.

Connor McVicker was successful with all three of his conversion kicks.

Regent House scored four tries through Tom Bell, with two, Lewis Robinson and Fintan McDonald.

Zach McMinn was successful with all four conversion kicks as well as with one penalty kick.

Campbell College played Sullivan Upper School in a game Campbell won 24-7.

Rory Adair, Dylan Armstrong, David Nelson and Xander Megarity scored the Campbell tries with Jack Best adding two successful conversion kicks.

The Sullivan points came through a try from Sam Galbraith which was converted by Henry Calvert.

Methodist College played Wallace High School in a game MCB won 21-12.

Peter Molloy, Peter Lindsay and Ruairi Kennedy scored the MCB tries.

Louis Curran added all three successful conversion kicks.

Thomas McCambley and Luka Matchett each scored a try for Wallace with Alex Stevenson adding one successful conversion kick.

RBAI played Royal School Armagh in a closely contested game RBAI won 21-17.

Adam Boyd, Connor Patton and Ross Dillon scored the Inst tries with Charlie O’Connor adding three successful conversion kicks.

RS Armagh’s points came through tries from Joshua Crawford, Tom Kennedy and Nathan Hamilton with Tom adding one successful conversion kick.
