Lions analysis

A difficult afternoon, we lost control of the game early on, we kicked the ball poorly in relation to our kick chase to put them under pressure. We didn't kick it long enough or high enough to put them under pressure in the contest and that brought a lot of pressure back onto us.

Second half we managed to get ourselves back into the game, but a couple of basic mistakes, missed tackles, a really tough day over here in Johannesburg with 27/ 28 degrees at altitude and it was a difficult day a the office. There were also a couple of decisions early on that went against us and that put us under more pressure. Disappointed the way the game finished but happy to get four tries and get a point out of it.

Message to the team

Pretty simple, we have to move on and learn from these experiences. We had a lot of young players out there, especially in that second half with James McCormick and James McNabney coming on and doing well. We have to learn fast because when you're playing at places like this any mistake you might make will get punished.

Determination to get Bonus-Point try

Absolutely, a couple of minutes before we actually got one we were in the corner and their player goes off his feet and gets his hands on the ball, the referee gave them the penalty which was really difficult because at that stage if we could have got another try, kicked a converison it would have brought us back into the game a bit. Happy the way the lads stuck to task and got the bonus-point which is very important, we have five points from two games, not the figure we wanted but it's where we are at and we'll move into the next task.

We'll take this, review it and come back stronger.

Lions Reaction

We always knew it was going to be a tough battle coming here. We know as a team we weren't quite up to scratch or where we wanted to be. We had a few loose transitions that let Lions into the game. Credit to them too but we have work to do and as a team we take accountability.

Mood in dressing room

The boys are disappointed, we are a really competitive side and never want to be on the losing side but we know we can build from this. We have plenty of games to come, we will park this and look straight to Vodacom Bulls next week.

Determination to get bonus-point try

You saw last match against Glasgow about the character of this side, we don't give up and empty the tank.

I don't doubt that we keep playing until the final whistle, so we'll take a positive from that.
