Meet our Volunteers | Sarah Adams

Sarah volunteers with Enniskillen's inclusive rugby team, SKINclusions as a disability coach.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m 21 and in my 3rd year of studying Occupational Therapy in Ulster University. I am a part of the Ladies rugby team at ERFC.

What does your role entail?

Planning and carrying out rugby activities with the children once a week.

What attracted you to the role?

It sounded like a fun idea that would benefit the club and myself - using on CV and gaining experience working with children of all needs. I thought it would be a great opportunity for the children with additional needs to get involved with sport in the local club.

How long have you been volunteering in sports and has it always been in this role?

I have been volunteering since July 2023.

Did you have any rugby experience before you started volunteering?

Yes, I’m part of ladies’ rugby team at ERFC.

Have you gained any new skills through volunteering?

Working with children with all needs. <br>
My communication skills, teamwork skills, problem solving skills have all been developed further.

Has volunteering in sport led to any other opportunities either in sport or outside of sport?

Our SKINclusions club had the opportunity to play at half time at two Ulster Rugby matches and at a Women’s Ulster Rugby match that took place on our own club grounds.

Has volunteering in sport impacted positively on your life, if yes please tell us how / why?

Yes, I’ve gained a range of experience that I can take with me when I graduate and become employed in the OT world.

What would you tell other people who would like to get involved in Rugby but who don’t play or have no experience in rugby?

Give it a go to develop new skills and have fun.
