Preview | Ulster Women v Munster Women (H)

All you need to know about this Saturday's Round 3 Vodafone Interprovincial Championship interpro against Munster Senior Women at Affidea Stadium.

The match will be the first time a senior Ulster Rugby side has played at the newly named stadium, as the team look to finish strong before the play-off finals the following weekend.

The team showed plenty of promise in the Round 2's first half against Connacht at Dexcom Stadium and took a half-time lead after Siobhan Sheerin's converted score, however the Westerners fought back in the second half and Ulster couldn't grab the momentum they needed to overturn the deficit.

Connacht dug in and saw out the 12-7 victory, in a match that was jarred by long stoppages due to injuries sustained.

With two losses, Murray Houston's team face an unbeaten Munster side this Saturday in Belfast with nothing to lose.

Team News

Team announcement will be shared across the Ulster Rugby social media channels from 12pm on Friday 22nd August.

The opposition

Munster head into the match in a confident mood, after a strong away performance against Leinster over the weekend.

Munster put five tries past last year's champions, seeing out an impressive 22-33 victory at Energia Park.

That victory followed their opening round dominance against Connacht, after they started off the Championship with a eight try 44-5 victory over the Westerners.

Winger, Chisom Ugwueru, has been on fire with four tries across the two opening rounds and Caitriona Finn has been named the Player of the Match two rounds in succession after her displays at fly-half.

Ulster know they have to be at the top of their game to try and keep Munster at bay in Belfast.

Last time out

The last time the two sides met each other was Round 1 of last year's Vodafone Interprovincial Championship, where Munster edged a close battle by 29-22.

Both sides showed a lot of attacking flair on the day, with Ulster scoring four tries through Tara O'Neill on her debut, India Daley, Lucy Thompson and Brittany Hogan, helping to earn the province two bonus-points.

It had been Ulster's best performance against Munster for well over a decade and helped serve a benchmark of progression for the senior women's side.

Players to watch

Ruby Starrett

The Queens University flanker has been putting in some all action displays for Ulster across the opening two rounds. She is busy around the breakdown, making important turnover jackals and is also a good ball-carrying forward in the side. A previous winner of the U18 Girls Player of the Year, Starrett is looking like a potential mainstay in the Ulster back row for years to come.

Lauren Darley

Darley laid down quite a marker in her first senior appearance for Ulster against Leinster.

The Queen’s University second row amassed 25 attacking ruck arrivals, a figure only matched by Munster’s Aoibhe O’Fynn. She is a good lineout player and is strong at disrupting the opposition's set piece.

Lauren Farrell- McCabe

A skilful footballer who plays her club rugby with Suttonians RFC, Farrell McCabe combines her pace with all round game intelligence.

She has shifted positions from full-back last season to fly-half for Ulster, and can dictate a game in the 10 jersey, showing her versatility. With open space in front, she can side step defenders and offers a threat from the half back position.
