The starting line-up featured two Ulster stalwarts making their final appearances for the province in Andrew Warwick and Kieran Treadwell.
Zac Ward replaced Jacob Stockdale in the starting lineup after feeling something in the warm-up.
After a back and forth start to the match, with both sides having spells of possession, Scotland international winger, Darcy Graham, broke the deadlock on 10 minutes.
Full back, Wes Goosen, started a counter-attack after fielding a kick out of the Ulster defence and running to halfway mark before passing infield to Graham. The right winger accelerated clear to go under the posts with fly- half Ross Thompson adding the conversion.
Edinburgh skipper, Magnus Bradbury, got the home side’s second try on 17 minutes.
The home pack had a few probes at the line, before the number eight powered over from close range but Thompson failed to convert.
Ulster got back into the game with a penalty try on 25 minutes.
Ulster were probing at the Edinburgh line for multiple phases and the home side had already infringed twice before Nathan Doak spun the ball wide to Stuart McCloskey. The centre fed Jack Murphy and the fly half flung a pass to the wing which would have given Zac Ward an easy run in.
Darcy Graham knocked the ball down one handed and it was adjudged to be a deliberate knock on, giving Ulster seven points with the penalty try. The wing was shown a yellow card.
Ulster were level four minutes later as Werner Kok made Ulster’s numerical advantage count.
From a scrum on halfway, the ball was moved across the pitch and Jack Murphy put a probing kick in behind to turn the Edinburgh defence. Goosen failed to secure himself over the ball, allowing Kok to pick up and use his power to get over the line for an unconverted try.
Edinburgh regained the lead on 34 minutes with their third try.
From a lineout, hooker Ewan Ashman peeled off the back of a maul and barged his way over.
Thompson’s conversion extended Edinburgh’s lead to 19-12 at the break.
Ulster nearly got a third try four minutes after the restart. Nick Timoney won a turnover in his own 22 and the ball was moved wide with McCloskey carrying before a superb offload to Ward. The winger put a kick behind the defence and won the race to hack on again but Harry Patterson got back to dot down over his own line for a drop out.
Werner Kok saved Ulster from conceding a try on 48 minutes when he came across and put in an increible tackle to put Graham into touch with the winger inches from the line.
Three minutes later it was Nick Timoney’s turn to stop Edinburgh scoring as the back-rower got his body under prop, Pierre Schoeman, to prevent the prop from grounding the ball and hold it up.
The pressure paid off and Edinburgh got their bonus point try a minute later. From a tap penalty the forwards drove towards the line and the captain, Bradbury, smashed over for his second try with Thompson converting.
Schoeman wasn’t to be denied a second time as he powered over from close range for Edinburgh’s fifth try at the end of the third quarter, with Thompson converting.
Ulster kept plugging away and Jude Postlethwaite scored a superb individual try in the 71st minute.
Edinburgh replacement, Mark Bennett, looked set to score but a powerful hit from Stewart Moore allowed Ulster to turn the ball over. Postlethwaite went all the way from deep in his own 22 to touch down for an unconverted try.
Darcy Graham would reply with two late converted tries to extend the scoreline and make it a painful end to the season for Ulster in the Scottish capital.
