## FAQS

Q: I’ve never played any rugby before. Can I still play?

Of course you can! There is ‘no contact’ in IRFU Tag. It is easy to pick up as well as great fun. Leagues are graded according to ability. An updated list of IRFU Tag Rugby laws can be downloaded here.

Q: What do I need in order to play?

To start with, the only truly compulsory accessory required is a pair of approved Tag rugby shorts.

They must be shorts (made by any manufacturer) that bear ‘no’ pockets and sport a velcro patch on each hip for a Tag to be attached upon.

Q: How many on a Tag team?

The recommended squad size for a Tag team is 12-14 players. During a game, each team must have no more than seven players on the field of play at any one time. Of the seven players on field, three must be female.

Q: Am I automatically insured playing?

The IRFU recommends that each player undertake their own Personal Accident Insurance cover against any injury sustained from playing the game itself during the Tag rugby season.

Q: How do I sign up my team to participate?

Click on the register links above.

Q. How are my games scheduled throughout the season?

The teams that play tag are of varying abilities. To try and make the playing field as even as possible, we will run grading games over the first few weeks. To do this, teams are put into mini leagues; each team will play against each other. Teams will then be put into groups based on where they finished in the mini leagues.

Q. I have a team but we haven’t played before - does this matter?

No this doesn’t matter! The grading games will give all players game time and if you come against a very experienced team both the opposition and the referee will give coaching and advice throughout your match.

Q. My team feels it won’t be at the same level with having a season off and no practice

Don’t worry; this is why we will run grading games. While it is competitive, tag is a social game and we will do our very best to ensure the majority of your matches are played against teams of a similar level.

Q. I don’t have a team, can I still play?

Everyone needs to be on a team; please contact the venue manager and they can advise if there is a team short on players, or if there are a few players in the same situation, and put you in contact with each other to form a team for the season.

## Why play Tag Rugby?

We've been speaking to some of the players who told us why they play tag rugby:

"Tag is an inclusive, fun and competitive form of rugby that removes contact but retains the enjoyment, respect and skill that the game of rugby offers. This allows players of all genders and abilities to share together a safe and enjoyable space to play rugby and have fun."

"Since stepping away from 15 a side, tag has been a great way for me to get my rugby fix. Not only by playing but also by having a social interaction in a team and community environment."

"Tag rugby has been a great solution to satisfy my contact rugby craving. Getting the chance to meet and socialise with likeminded people while also getting a bit of exercise is a no brainer."

"With working from home we rarely meet colleagues, tag gives the opportunity for staff to meet up and especially good for new starts to get to know others within the company."

"A number of people who have had no rugby experience before have been avid players of our team and say it’s the highlight of their week. If you don’t have a team, contact Claire she does a great job getting everyone onto a team."

"Tag is a great way to get fit and meet new people. It’s more challenging than going to the gym or out for a jog, which makes it good craic."

"I play tag because it’s fun and social meeting and playing against lots of new people and it’s a competitive environment."

"I play tag keep my fitness up between regular rugby seasons and to have a bit of craic with my friends on the longer summer nights."

"As a company it is a great way to bring people together in other departments, it is a great social opportunity while promoting health and fitness."
