Young volunteers explore sustainability in sport

24 Young Sports Volunteers from clubs across Ulster representing Football, GAA and Rugby have come together for a Multi-Sport Youth Forum to explore sustainability in sport.

Working towards reducing negative impacts on the environment, the three major sports in Ulster are implementing practices and programme to promote environmentally friendly approaches.  The Multi-Sport Youth Forum was an ideal platform to explore ideas of younger volunteers, aged 14-24 years old.

Groundworks NI and QUB helped facilitate the session which focussed minds on small changes that can be made in sports clubs to help promote sustainability.

Following good discussions, the young participants enjoyed watching NI women v Iceland at Ballymena Showgrounds. For some participants, this was their first ever attendance at a NI Football match, highlighting the importance of this DfC Sport: A Home for Lifelong Volunteering Project in encouraging the three sports to collaborate together on areas of mutual interest.

All participants worked well together and enjoyed learning from each other, and we hope participants will take part in further multi-sport activity through this programme.
