Biography
Matthew Devine is an exciting young scrum-half who joins Ulster Rugby from Connacht for the 2026/27 season.
A native of Ballinasloe, County Galway, Devine developed through the Connacht Academy after coming through the ranks at Ballinasloe RFC and Garbally College.
A talented and energetic half-back, Devine was a key member of Ireland’s 2022 Under-20 Six Nations Grand Slam-winning side, scoring four tries during the campaign.
He made his senior Connacht debut against Lyon in the Champions Cup in January 2024 before earning his first professional contract later that year.
Devine has signed a one-year deal with Ulster until at least summer 2027, linking up again with Richie Murphy and Mark Sexton, whom he worked with during his Ireland U20 career.
His pace, attacking instincts and ability to bring tempo to the game make him an exciting addition to Ulster’s scrum-half options.
